山門の外側には国道202号を挟み、その対向側に第14岡部ビルが見える。2000年2月竣工した第14岡部ビルの建築工事が着手される前に、1998年（平成10年）7月9日より福岡市教育委員会埋蔵文化財課による発掘調査が行われ、2000年（平成12年）3月31日発行の報告書により、前方後円墳などの周溝が確認されている[1]。
