Nylon threads Magnification: 65x

Dear friends, it's no radiolarian or unicelluar this week, it's plain nylon - but don't be afraid, I still have some radiolarians in the loop for the weeks to come.

It just happend that I came across a cheap and actually rather lousy preparat of nylon in my drawer, which I'd bought ages ago and had never looked at. To my surprise, it rendered an interesting, almost abstract microphoto, which in particular shows some perspectivity in terms of gradual differences in sharpness between foreground and background.

The latter is something that's usually missing in my microphotos, though for purely technical reasons. Microscopic lenses (being essentially extreme telephoto lenses) don't come with much depth of field at the first place, and with increasing magnification depth of field decreases to a level that's no longer worth to mention. Most of my microshots are done with 160x- or 400x-magnification, so depth of field is negligible and nothing you can make any use of for creating photografic effects.
