Description
English: The one-story building to the left in this photograph of N. 11th and W. Idaho Sts. was constructed by contractor A. S. Whiteway from a design by architects Wayland & Fennell in 1919. The David Falk Estate financed the building on land owned by the Falks, and the original tenant was Oakley & Sons, purveyors of Exide batteries and Goodyear tires. Later, Oakley Appliance & Music Co. and Oakley Electric, Inc. were joint tenants until the end of 1949. The building was subdivided into office space in 1950, and joint tenants included General Motors Acceptance Co., Hart and Larson, Universal C.I.T. Corp., Ada County Abstract Co., Moore Business Forms, Standard Oil Co. of California, and General Adjustment Co. In 1978 the Record Exchange occupied the building. Randolph G. Hitchcock was an automotive sales and service dealer in the neighborhood. He owned the Hitchcock Motor Co. and the Hitchcock Oil Co., but neither at this building.
