Description

There is another picture of this mural in my stream, but this is the best one, just discovered. Scanned AGFA slide. The mural was painted over in the first fortnight of May 1990. The Hammer and Anvil symbol was located prominently on one of the 1950s buildings in Magdeburg. What is TWSH?? or some of the other symbols, like the interlocking triangles and the furnace and the G? (thanks below to Greenkohl for information about Hermann Gruson an important industrialist in Magdeburg who gave his name to a large engineering firm there. Certainly it became part of the Robotron Kombinat.. Perhaps this is the logo? IT SEEMS that Flickr members are more interested in Gruson's exotic plant collection than his industrial life which allowed such hobbies. I am not sure what the VEB Grusonwerke produced in Magdeburg. At the confluence of the Sulze with the Elbe, he founded in 1855 his engineering works and foundry which produced inter alia railway track. It was taken over by Krupp in 1893.

SKET (see Below) was the Schwermaschinenbaukombinat Ernst Thaelmann which was initially the Soviet AG Gruson , a continuation of the pre-wwII firm Krupp-Gruson and its early DDR successor, the VEB Schwermaschinenbau Ernst Thälmann. As Herr. G says (below), the large Hammer and Anvil sign was the symbol of the SKET works.
