Description

Scope and content: This file unit consists of correspondence and financial records related to the distribution of oil for lighthouses in Massachusetts and Maine received by Superintendents of Massachusetts Lighthouses Benjamin Lincoln, Henry Dearborn, and Henry A.S. Dearborn. Included are receipts and invoices for oil deliveries, requests from Customs Collectors for additional supplies, and correspondence related to contracts for oil distribution. Correspondents include Customs Collectors William Ellery and Daniel Coffin, and contractor Winslow Lewis. This file unit also contains records related to the supply of oil for lighthouses in Savannah, Georgia; Wilmington, North Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; and New London, Connecticut.
