DescriptionOl Pejeta Rhino Cemetery & Memorial, Remembering Sudan (the last male northern white rhino) One Year On (46723597264).jpg |
The Memorial honours the lives of all the Ol Pejeta rhinos that have been killed in the poaching epidemic. A total of sixteen gravestones stand underneath the tree; a stark reminder of the devastation of the illegal wildlife trade, but also an inspiration to all who visit to continue supporting rhino conservation. www.olpejetaconservancy.org/plan-your-visit/destinations/... Sudan (1973 – 19 March 2018) was a captive northern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) who lived at the Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic from 1975[3] to 2009, and the rest of his life at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. At the time of his death, he was one of only three living northern white rhinoceroses in the world, and the last known male of his subspecies. Sudan was euthanised on 19 March 2018, after suffering from "age-related complications". en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudan_(rhinoceros) |
