Summary
editDescriptionOld Royal Infirmary clocktower - geograph.org.uk - 1340184.jpg |
English: Old Royal Infirmary clocktower The clock tower above the main entrance to the third Royal Infirmary building, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1870 by the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. It was enlarged in 1879 and again in 1903, becoming the largest hospital in the world under a single roof. It has now been replaced by a new fourth Royal Infirmary on a site off the Old Dalkeith Road. The clocktower is currently being converted into the central feature of a new residential development. |
