| Description | This house is located along Old Settlement Road on a small grassy knoll overlooking the Tuckaseigee River near Webster, North Carolina. The listed date of construction of this house is 1867, which, if true, would make it one of the oldest houses in the area, though the external appearance suggests that several renovations were undertaken, much like the nearby Lucius Coleman Hall House. The quaint Folk Victorian house has many elements of the Carpenter Gothic style, including a centrally located gable on the front facade, flanked by two shed wall dormers, which give it a very similar appearance to the nearby Walter E. Moore House, which dates to 1886. The house also features a front porch with ornate Victorian brackets, and a rear ell, which, if it has a similar history to nearby houses of a similar age and style, may be the original house from 1867. Today, this is one of the many charming Victorian-era structures around the old town of Webster, the former county seat of Jackson County and the ancient location of the Cherokee “Middle Town” of Unadanti’yi. |
