English: Old drove road at the Common Ford. The narrow channel of the Gallangad Burn crosses from right to left in this image. This is the location of the Common Ford, where an old drove road crossed the burn; see: 1402259.
The green area in the foreground is a remnant of the drove road as it approaches the burn from the west. This photo shows an outcrop of rock that blocks the way ahead on the other side of the burn; the drove road would have deflected slightly to the north-east (up and to the left, in this image) to continue up the slope. Continuing in that direction, I noted some exposed limestone outcrops; even today, these form a pavement-like route, possibly the one followed by the drovers' herds: 1402346. |
