Description

The old gun emplacement at Fjell Festning (Fjell Fortress), as it appeared in mid 2004. The gun was the B-tower from the German battleship Gneisenau. The steel plating lying in front in the picture, is armour from the now removed gun turret.

The emplacement has later been modified, and a large glass housing has been placed on top of it. This was mainly to prevent rain entering the main tunnel system, but the building also contains a café. On the outside, the grass was removed (and the gunpost for a while looked as it did when the gun was operational), rain coating was applied, but dirt has now been put back on the concrete, a road (not original) has been constructed and a building containing toilets has been built close to the gun emplacement.
