| Description |
English: Old pier, Uyeasound Looking north from the new pier, opened in 2009, towards the remains of a small pier that would have served the Eastside shop, known locally as 'Harold's shop' in the years prior to its closure. Flit boats would have carried goods to the shop from the Earl of Zetland, the ferry that served the North Isles of Shetland before the advent of a ro-ro service in the 1970s. Docking at Uyeasound was not an option as there was no deepwater berth. Harold's shop, meanwhile, was demolished in 2008 as part of the preparatory work for the new pier. |
