Description
English: Old railway trackbed by Newsham Beck This is the remains of the railway which used to run from Barnard Castle to Darlington which followed Newsham Beck for almost the whole of its course until it joined Langley Beck and then the Tees itself. It is increasingly difficult to find traces on the ground, and large parts of the course of the railway no longer show on the 1:50000 maps. Unlike many old railways, very little of this one has been used for vehicles, and although there are tractor tracks along this section for a short way west of Morey, the small embankment soon disappears in thickets. This is the point where the bed reappears to the west as an easily walkable route, though there seems to be little left of interest to railway archaeologists.
