Description
English: The separated #2 engine of Omega Aerial Refueling Services Flight 70 lying just inside the left edge of runway 21 at Naval Base Ventura County, California, having separated from the aircraft, a 707-300B modified as an aerial fuel tanker, just after liftoff, and also struck and effectively disabled the #1 engine. Tyre tracks from the aircraft's main landing gear, deposited as a result of braking during the rejected takeoff, can be clearly seen heading past the engine off the left side of the runway, pointing straight to the aircraft's burning wreckage in the distance. (The wreckage still being on fire establishes definitively that this photograph was taken on the day of the accident itself.) The three flightcrew were able to escape from the aircraft before it was destroyed by fire, and suffered only minor injuries.
