Description
English: On Friar Gate, Derby. Approaching the junction with the A601, Stafford Street. Ahead is the disused railway bridge, built in 1878.

When the Great Northern Railway wanted to build this bridge, in a very wealthy area of the city, there was instant outcry. The company was forced to build a very beautiful structure, designed by a local iron founder, Andrew Handyside. The Council wanted to demolish the bridge in the 1970s, but an Action Group helped prevent this municipal vandalism.
