Description
English: Proposal for a new flag for the Province of Ontario, Canada. This design takes its inspiration from Ontario's heraldic shield, but excluding the Cross of St. George (a representation of England) and replaces the maple leaves' gold colour (as on the heraldic shield) with white.

This design is attractive, simple, includes one of Ontario's two official colours and is historically sound.

Historically, the province did not have an official flag until the 1960's, when the government of the day made today's flag official, i.e. a red ensign with the Union Flag in the canton and the heraldic shield of Ontario in the fly. This was a reaction by conservatives to the removal of Canada's red ensign as the national flag, in favour of today's maple leaf flag.

Quite conceivably, there may be a day when Ontarians decide that they no longer want a flag with the British Union Jack (Union Flag) in the canton; while historically significant, it is no longer representative of the majority of Ontarians or their own ancestors.
