| Description |
English: Open day This was the works open day and the locos here were in for stripping and then scrap. The works shut a long time ago now and the buildings used to run right along by the main railway line. It was a vast area and it is quite hard to pinpoint the exact position of this photograph so many years after it was taken. Thousands of people were employed here at the works when locomotives and coaches were built and overhauled. The famous "A" shop was demolished and is long gone. Some of the works building survive. Most Railway rolling stock is built abroad now. What would Brunel think? The ford car is quite a collectors item now but then they were ten a penny. |
