Description |
English: In 1912, members of the Washington chapter of the Good Roads Association promoted the building of three primary roads to connect the different parts of the state. The main north-south route, called the Pacific Highway, was to run from Blaine, at the Canadian border, to Vancouver, Washington, on the Columbia River. Over the next two years, workers built the 310-mile highway in sections. It was not completely paved until the 1920s.
This January 29, 1915 photo shows the dedication of a section of the Pacific Highway at an unidentified location in western Washington. The fact that the photographer was from the Seattle firm of Webster & Stevens suggests that this particular dedication took place in or near King County.
