Español: Antes de que el Museo Nacional fuese un museo era una penitenciaría , la

Penitenciaría Central de Cundinamarca. Debido a la creencia que tenía el país a principios del S. XIX sobre que la educación era necesaria para lograr un orden social en Colombia, se decidió que en este lugar se le enseñara a los presos diversas actividades manuales “artes industriales” para fomentar la industria a nivel nacional. Para hacerlo se montó un taller de telares en la década de 1940, una de las cosas que los presos lograron aprender a realizar para su distribución fueron tapetes y otras

cosas por el estilo.
