| Description |
English: Orgreave Colliery, steam winding engine This was a very fast winding engine and it was quite a thrill to see the winding engineman (seated towards the rear) giving it some welly. The engine was built by Markham & Co Ltd of Chesterfield in 1926 and the two cylinders were 39" bore x 66" stroke. The drum was parallel and 18' diameter. The valve gear was worked by a drag link and crank off the main crankpins with the linkage down the outside of the engine and then a cross-shaft over the cylinders to internal wrist plates. This engine was scrapped in 1983 or 4. |
