Summary
editDescriptionOriginal path of Chesterfield Canal - geograph.org.uk - 175258.jpg |
English: Original path of Chesterfield Canal. Research would seem to indicate that the canal didn't follow the straight N-S path it does now. Rather, it followed the 55m contour line out to the south-west before rejoining the current route in sk4478. There's little locally to indicate this except the strange presence of a disused canal visible on the 1:25000 map. The hedge line in the picture follows the original line of the cut. |
