Summary
editDescriptionOrnate Cast Iron Lampposts. - geograph.org.uk - 963930.jpg |
English: Ornate Cast Iron Lampposts. Ornate period lampposts in Harrison Road, Edinburgh. The nearer column on the right is a Mackenzie Bros product which was manufactured in Balcarres Street, Edinburgh. The further column on the left is a later version manufactured by the Falkirk Iron Co. It is thought that the Falkirk columns were first to appear in Harrison Road, as new in the early 1900s. The older Mackenzie columns probably arrived in the early 1920s having been displaced from main roads where replacement lighting had been fitted to the traction poles of the then recently electrified tram system. |
