| Description |
English: Ornate Pub Sign at The Bell, Stilton. This was a coaching halt on the Great North Road but has now been by-passed by the A1. Note the very wide street, wide enough for a market. The road to the south of the village is now pedestrianized. Stilton cheese was never made here but the name is applied to this cheese from the surrounding area. The local cheese was first sold to travellers at Stilton which thence gave the cheese its name. |
