| Description |
This is the osprey fledgling at Eagle Lakes Park, Naples, Florida. The other two chicks have both made their maiden flights but as yet they have not managed to land anywhere other than back at the nest. Note the orange eyes and the white fringes around the feathers showing it's a juvenile. This osprey is brilliant. It fledged on Tuesday morning and was clearly a novice in flying and especially landing. Today I saw it swooping and banking very fast, landing on thin snags and posts and dipping its toes in the water as it flew over a lake. Finally it dropped into the water and then made a very good launch back into the air and a feather drying shake!!! |
