Description
English: 1521 Our Lady of Guidance[1] (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guia) is a 16th-century Roman Catholic image of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated by Filipino Roman Catholics. Claiming to be the oldest Marian image in the Philippines, the wooden statue is believed to have been originally brought by Ferdinand Magellan (along with Santo Nino de Cebu). Locally venerated as patroness of navigators and travellers, the statue is enshrined in the Nuestra Señora de Guia Archdiocesan Parish in Ermita, Manila. Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Guia Parish ( Ermita Church) - 441st Feast of Our Lady of Guidance - May 18, 2012[2]; the image of Our Lady was found on May 19, 1571, making it the oldest among all those venerated in the Philippines. In 1578, the king of Spain, in a royal decree, declared Our Lady of Guidance as the “sworn patroness” of Manila. [3]Coordinates: 14°34'43"N 120°58'48"E[4]Vicariate of Nuestra Señora De Guia[5]
