English: Overgrown marlpit, Weasenham All Saints, Norfolk. – many fields on light, non-calcareous soils in Norfolk have pits from which heavier, chalk-rich soil material was dug to improve the topsoil for agriculture; some contain ponds and tend to be wooded or overgrown now, while others remain as dry depressions, as in the foreground.
