Summary edit

Description The Owasco Lake Outlet Dam (also known as State Dam) off of Miller Street in Auburn, New York lies across the Owasco Outlet (also called the Owasco River) which drains Owasco Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, into the the Seneca River. The dam is used to control the outflow of the lake and to prevent shoreline flooding; a minimum flow is required to assimilate waste water treatment effluent. Owasco Lake is the source of drinking water for the city, the Town of Owasco and 70% of Cayuga County. The masonry dam is 14 feet high and 258 feet long, with a maximum discharge of 5,792 cubic feet per second, and a capacity of 64,233 acre feet, with normal storage of 17,712 acre feet. The dam was completed in 1972. (Sources: [1], [2])
