Afrikaans: Die Owela-spel, soortgelyk aan Mancala, is een van die speletjies wat deur Namibiërs gespeel word. Twee of vier rye holtes word in die sand gemaak en minstens 2 spelers word benodig. Daar word meestal met maroelasade gespeel, maar ander soorte sade is nie uitgesluit nie. Die holtes verteenwoordig veekrale terwyl die sade beeste verteenwoordig. Onder die voordele van die speletjie is dat dit mense se rekenvaardighede inspan, hulle aanmoedig om krities te dink, hulle in staat stel om gesellig te verkeer en boonop hul kulturele erfenis bewaar.
English: Owela game is closely associated to Mancala and it is one of those games played by people in Namibia. To play this game, two or four rows of holes are dug into the ground and a minimum of 2 players is required. It is mostly played with Marula seeds but other types of seeds are not exempted. The holes represent kraals while the seeds represents cattle and cows. The benefit of this game is that it allows people to think critically and improve their math skills but above all it preserve cultural heritage and allows people to unite while conversating during the game. |
