IO~)4,9 cm; putto met fakkel,; 48,s cm; gekalkt en beschadigd door afschilfering.; Volgens een XVIIIde eeuwse traditie, medegedeeld door P. J. Mariette (Abecedario, Archives de l'art français, Paris 185 I - 1860,II, 139- 142), zou Frans du Quesnoy, die het graf van Mgr. Triest niet kon uitvoeren (zie nr. 237), het plan en het portret teruggezonden hebben, accompagnés de deux petits enfants destinés à orner ce tombeau s’il venoit d’être exécuté par un autre sculpteur. Ongetwijfeld zijn deze; twee kindjes te identificeren, niet met de marmeren exemplaren van; de graftombe zelf, maar met de twee terracotta bozzetti.; Deze terracotta beeldjes zijn geen afgietsels (ze zijn kleiner dan de; marmeren putti) ; evenmin nabootsingen. Ofschoon zeer gehavend; is er nog voldoende van de originele oppervlakte bewaard om te; kunnen vaststellen dat zij de hoedanigheid bezitten van da-prima boetseerwerk.; Laatst, tot circa 1956, stonden de putti in de tuin van het bisdom;; dat met de zandloper werd in 1959 overgebracht naar de krypte;; het andere, in oktober 1964 onthoofd teruggevonden in een bergplaats,; werd eveneens overgebracht naar de krypte.; A. Gezeten, de voetjes gekruist, houdt met beide handen de zandloper; op zijn knie; het hoofd op de linkerhand gesteund, kijkt het; peinzend voor zich uit.; B. Gezeten, houdt met beide handen de omgekeerde, uitgedoofde; fakkel tussen zijn beentjes; het hoofd, op de linkerhand steunend,; hoopvol omhoog gericht.; Inventaris van het Kunstpatrimonium van Oost-Vlaanderen, V: Sint-Baafskathedraal, Gent; door Dr Elisabeth Dhaenens, 1965. . .
