Summary edit

Description PR13-CN-1991-34-6: WWII-Seabees. Tractors and grading machines grind out pathways in the stubborn soil of Adak, during the construction of bases on Aleutian strongpoints. For many of the Seabees, the war has been a long struggle with stubborn tundra, an Herculean day-by-day routine of doing skilled work in bitter temperatures as they constructed the springboard for the final ouster of the Japanese from the Aleutians in 1943. Note the PBY aircraft in the background. U.S. Navy Photograph. Courtesy of the Library of Congress. (2017/05/26). Original photograph is curved.
