Portrait of a H'mong child in Mu Cang Chai district of Yen Bai province, selling flowers in a beautiful ethnic dress.

Summary edit

Description
English: The pictured girl is a member of one of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups - the H'mong, which only makes up 1.45% of the population. Her attire is traditional of the H'mong tribes residing in Vietnam, woven using colorful fabric and often intricately decorated with silver charms. Despite being so young, she's selling flowers so that she could help out her struggling family. Most unfortunately, this is a scene that you will commonly see as you visit the mountainous regions of Vietnam, where many ethnic groups inhabit. Nevertheless, these children, young as they are, are still able of retaining the playful, innocent and curious qualities typical of every child. While not apparent in that portrait, there was a notable sense of excitement that she gave off after I finished taking the picture - exclaiming that it is not often that she gets to be the main subject of a portrait. Being a citizen of Vietnam and also an avid traveller, moments like these are what I seek on my trip.
