Description

Paediatric finger diagnosis chart, fromYouyou xin shu(New Book of Paediatrics) by the Song (960-1279) writer Liu Fang, in an edition dated '14th year of the Wanli reign period of the Ming dynasty,bingxuyear' [i.e. 1586]. It illustrates the 'Water Graph' (shui zi) vein pattern. This pattern is a sign that malignance (xie) has affected the lung. There is an aggregation of food at the diaphragm and a mixture of deficiency and excess. The complexion of the face appears blue. This is treated by relieving the accumulation and inducing defecation, and by clearing the lungs to get rid of the malignance.
