El Palacio del Castañar ha sido declarado Bien de Interés Cultural, con categoría de Monumento, por Decreto 22/2003, de 18 de febrero, de la Consejería de Educación y Cultura de la Comunidad de Castilla-La Mancha . En la disposición se describe detalladamente el edificio y se indica que la existencia de la finca data del siglo XII (repoblación templaria), que el palacio cuenta con dos jardines, el frontal de tipo afrancesado y el posterior de influencia italiana y que es obra de Joaquín Saldaña y López iniciada en 1904, quien tomó como inspiración un castillo propiedad de Walter Scott (se trata de Abbotsford House) El palacio fue edificado por encargo de José Finat Carvajal, Conde de Mayalde, de Finat y de Villaflor, Marqués de Terranova. Su hijo y siguiente propietario, José Finat Escrivá de Romaní, estaba casado con Casilda de Bustos Figueroa, Duquesa de Pastrana (entre otros títulos); fue alcalde de Madrid desde 1952 hasta 1965. En 1949 fundó la ganadería "Conde de Mayalde" (en la actualidad, en la finca El Castañar sólo pacen las vacas, los toros están en la finca El Espinar de Segovia, según explica Rafael Finat Riva) A unos cinco km. del Palacio (ver ruta) se encuentran los restos de la presa romana de Alcantarilla, construída para abastecer de agua la ciudad de Toledo. El estudio más completo de la presa lo realizó Raúl Celestino Gómez; la Real Academia de Toledo facilita su lectura; otra información, planos y fotos en Cervantes Virtual, Sociedad Española de Historia de la Construcción, Lirgua, El Toledo Escondido y Panoramio (Jumadogo). En discurso leído ante la Real Academia de Toledo el 8-11-1917, El Castañar de Cisneros, Manuel Escrivá de Romaní ofrece muchos detalles de la historia de la finca, desde su pasado templario hasta ser lugar de retiro del Cardenal Cisneros, pasando por varias referencias literarias entre las que destaca la de Francisco de Rojas. Actualmente la finca tiene diversos usos, entre ellos coto de caza. En una página de la finca se cuenta que el coto aparece citado en el Libro de Montería de Alfonso XI de Castilla (conocido como "el Justiciero") y que allí mató el rey Juan Carlos su primer jabalí. Aunque está habitado, es posible concertar visitas, con acceso al interior del edificio. |
