An inscribed stone monument reads: "88th D.V. I July 3, 1863 - Here Major J. G. Palmer Fell Mortally Wounded. Casualties in this Position: Killed 1, Wounded 17. Monument positioned on a larger, rough rock and surrounded by woodland vegetation and two small American flags.
