| Description |
English: Whitworth Road in Rodbourne Cheney, Swindon, Wiltshire, England. This is a 2011 comparison photograph to complement the 1920s photograph of the same view by Fred C Palmer: File:Fred C Palmer Whitworth Rd Swindon 1920s 005.jpg. All of the buildings visible in the original photograph still exist, as can be seen in this 2011 photo; more buildings have been added between them. The road has been moved or widened, and is now very busy with fast traffic. The uploader was therefore unable to imitate Palmer's original camera position, which would now be in the middle of the road. This 2011 photo was therefore taken from the opposite side of the road, hence the more elongated frame. The shop which was Lewis's in the 1920s image is now a post office which was closed when the 2011 photo was taken, and had a hole in the shutter for public access to an ATM. |
