Summary

edit
Description Palmerston North Cenotaph (also known as the Palmerston North War Memorial) was erected in the centre of The Square, Palmerston North, in 1926. The figure that sits atop the memorial is based on a similar one in Folkstone, England. It faces north-west towards the battlefields of Europe and represents the spirit of motherhood. It holds a wreath of remembrance and a staff on which the New Zealand flag flies at half-mast.
