Description
Deutsch: Auf den Färöern leben etwa 1,1 Mio. Papageitaucher. Im größten Teil des Verbreitungsgebietes bilden Fische die fast ausschließliche Nestlingsnahrung. Erbeutet werden die häufigen tagsüber erreichbaren Schwarmfische, dies sind vor allem Sandaale (Ammodytidae), Sprotte, Lodde und Atlantischer Hering. Im Nordpolarmeer werden Vielborster und Krebstiere auch regelmäßig an die Nestlinge verfüttert. Papageitaucher tragen die gefangenen Fische quer im Schnabel. Sie werden mit der Zunge gegen den Oberschnabel gedrückt, bis die ganze Schnabellänge mit Fisch gefüllt ist.
