Parterre, Quartier des spectacles, Arrondissement de la Ville-Marie, Montréal. Paquets de lumière participe à l’identité culturelle du Quartier des spectacles et contribue à son dynamisme festif. Ce triptyque aux figures dansantes célèbre le spectacle. Chaque élément est formé des mêmes six objets organisés et assemblés de façon différente. Leur position changeante d’un élément à l’autre crée des mouvements ainsi que des associations et offre de vastes possibilités d’interprétation. Le tout est accentué de taches de couleurs. L’artiste intègre à cet orchestre éclaté de petits d’objets insolites par leur association à la musicalité. Gilles Mihalcean travaille comme sculpteur depuis plus de quarante ans. Son travail repose sur une approche poétique et narrative principalement inspirée des propriétés des différents matériaux utilisés et de leur capacité à générer des images inattendues. Depuis 1971, Mihalcean a reçu de nombreux prix et bourses, parmi lesquels se trouvent la bourse Jean-Paul-Riopelle (2005) et le très prestigieux Prix Paul-Émile-Borduas (2011). Son travail a également fait l’objet d’une exposition rétrospective au Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal en 1995-1996 et fait partie de plusieurs collections publiques. Il a également réalisé un très grand nombre de sculptures d’art public intégrées à l’architecture et à l’environnement. Gilles Mihalcean vit et travaille à Montréal.
