en:Olive drab en:Parachute cord, purchased at a en:surplus store in the US. It was labeled: "Rothco, "G.I. PLUS", Type III Commercial, en:Nylon Paracord, Made by a Certified US Gov't Contractor, 550 lb. Test, 7 Strand Core, 100% Nylon, Made in the USA". The sheath (mantle) is braided from 32 strands and the core (kern) made up of seven two-en:ply en:yarns. Thus it does not appear to conform strictly to MIL-C-5040H Type III, which seems to specify three-ply yarns for the core. It is possible, however, that the two plies contain a similar amount of nylon as the equivalent three-ply yarns and behave similarly. The pictured coil contains 10 ft (3 m) of parachute cord. |
