Stages 1 and 2 of vitellogenesis in Crepidostomum metoecus.

  • (1) An immature vitellocyte (Stage 1) at the periphery of the follicle. The nucleus is filled with heterochromatin and the cell possesses a high nucleo-cytoplasmic ratio. Scale bar = 1 μm.
  • (2) Immature vitellocyte at first stage of maturation filled with ribosomes, mitochondria, and few endoplasmic reticulum saccules. Scale bar = 1 μm.
  • (3) Electron micrograph of second stage of vitelline cells’ maturation (arrowheads: basal lamina). Scale bar = 1 μm.
  • (4) Part of the cytoplasm of a cell at second stage of maturation showing Golgi complexes and granular endoplasmic reticulum. Scale bar = 1 μm.
