Inset: detail of a synaptonemal complex. Scale bar = 2 μm.* (14) General observation of a fully mature germ cell, with a low nucleo-cytoplasmic ratio. Cortical granules are at the periphery of the cell, and a chromatoid body is surrounded by clusters of mitochondria in the cytoplasm. Nuclear vacuoles are observed in the nucleolus. Scale bar = 2 μm.
