editDescriptionPartial molar volume EN.svg |
English: Diagram showing the molar volume of a thermodynamic system with two components (A and B). The difference in molar volume due to mixing (ΔVmix) is a function of the molar fractions of components A and B. In a composition of pure A (XA = 1.0; XB = 0.0), the molar volume equals the molar volume of component A at standard state (V°A). In a composition of pure B (XB = 1.0; XA = 0.0), the molar volume equals the molar volume of component B at standard state (V°B). For a composition of XA = 0.55 + XB = 0.45, vA and vB are the partial molar volumes of A and B respectively. The dotted line connecting V°A and V°B is the theoretical mixing curve when no difference in volume due to mixing would occur. |
