DescriptionPasar-Bamboo-along-Buitengracht.jpg |
English: View of the Pasar Bambu, seen from the south.
A sluice in the Buitengracht, or outer canal, has been built to regulate the water levels in the southern city canal. The lock comprises four smaller sluices, known as 'boerenverdrieten' (farmers' sorrows). To the left of the sluice is the bamboo market. Bamboo was used as a cheap building material. Depicted in the foreground is a man bearing a long bamboo pole. Far left is the Utrecht Gate. Far right is the Nassau bastion and further the Diest Gate and the roof of the inner hospital.
