Title
Passage du Saumon
Description
In 1780, the original Passage du saumon was built in the place of an open-air passage, and was at this time considered to be one of Paris's most frequented galleries. In 1825, the Passage was sold and reconstruction began slightly to the south of the original, between the rues Montmartre and Montorgueil. It was inaugurated in 1828 and consisted of a main walkway measuring 175 meters long, as well as separate rooms, such as the Galerie des bains, which featured public baths, and the Galerie du salon, consisting of a theater and salon. Despite its initial success, the popularity of the Passage du saumon diminished following the Second Empire, and it was demolished in 1899.
