한국어: 미국에서는 오늘을 '새의 날'로 기념한다. 이 참새(Passer montanus malaccensis)는 말레이시아의 쿠알라룸푸르에서 촬영한 다 자란 수컷이다. 북아메리카에서는 약 1만 5천 마리의 새들이 세인트루이스와 일리노이주의 인접한 부분과 남부 아이오와주에 자리잡았다. 이 참새들은 독일에서 수입된 12마리 새들의 후손으로 1870년 4월 말경에 북아메리카의 토종 조류상을 향상시키기 위한 기획의 일환으로서 풀려났다. 미국의 참새들은 때때로 '독일 참새'로 불러 토종의 참새나 그보다 더 널리 퍼져 있는 '영국' 집참새와 구별한다.
