Description

Dutch artist Jan Toorop made ‘Past’ between 1898-1903. He made it together with 2 other tablatures ‘Today’ and ‘Future’ for the ‘Beurs of Berlage’ in Amsterdam. ‘Past’ is about white slave trade. The man on the left exchanges his sword for the wife of the man on the right. In the background slaves are driven forward by whip.
