This idol of Pashupati Nath is in a south-facing pagoda-style one-storey temple with a five-faced Shivalinga. The construction of this temple was started by Mahendra Malla in 1618 BS. As King Yakshamalla built a Pashupati temple in Bhaktapur, Mahendramalla also had it built in front of his palace. The present form of this temple was reconstructed by PM Juddhashamsher in 1995 after the great earthquake of 1990 BS. Devotees also flock to the world-famous Pashupati temple of Hindus. Hindus consider Pashupatinath temple to be the main temple. This is a very important temple. There are many other small temples around this major Pashupati temple. This temple is located on the northwest corner of Hanumandhoka on the road to Makhantol.
