Summary edit

Description
English: The Paul A. Frey House, 236 East Treehaven Road, Cheektowaga, New York, February 2023. Built in 1953, the impressive High Modern design of this home, a work of local architect Sebastian Tauriello, was impressive enough to earn it a spot on the Radcliffe College Club's second annual Tour of Modern Homes later that year. It's a low-slung, sprawling structure, replete with smooth unadorned surfaces, sleek straight lines, rectilinear forms, liberal use of cantilevering (note the deep recesses fronting the garage door at left and entrance terrace at right), and - most notable of all - a butterfly roof, a design element that was on trend at the time in warmer, less snowy areas of the country but understandably rare in Western New York. Paul A. Frey (1900-1993) was the Alsatian-born cofounder and president of the Frey Electric Construction Company, a contracting firm specializing in electrical systems installation and maintenance for a wide variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. He lived in the house with his wife Augusta until moving to Florida in 1983.
