Summary edit

Description
English: These pavilions were built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan. Like most Mughal gardens, Shalimar Bagh had channels of water culminating in ornate tanks and several fountains. The layout must have adhered to the Persian 'chaharbagh' style. The pavilions have patches of wall-paintings that have somehow survived the ravages of time. The gardens weren't so lucky. They have disappeared entirely, giving way to a torrid expanse used by callous locals to play cricket, urinate and dump construction refuse.
