Description
English: Peck Pond on Hunshelf Hall Lane This used to be the most important thoroughfare in the area, originally part of the Cheshire to East Yorkshire Salters Way, and from 1741, the Manchester Turnpike Road. According to the information board in nearby Green Moor, suspected witches were dowsed in this pond, although its primary purpose was a watering hole for cattle drovers. The wall bisecting the pond is an original feature and would have allowed different groups of animals to drink at the same time. The site was restored in 2001 by Hunshelf Parish Council with the help of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
