English: Pecousic Villa, on a terrace near Longhill Street in Forest Park, Springfield, Massachusetts. Built as home by Everett H. Barney, skate manufacturer; Pecousic being the Indian name for a wide place between hills or valley. Was bequested by Everett H. Barney with the surrounding land to the city of Springfield for establishing a public park, and served as a Springfield Gilded Age Museum. Demolished in 1959 to give way to I-91, and the current whereabouts of the villa's artifacts are unknown. |
